Oak Harbor Police Are Seeking Public Assistance in Locating Armed and Dangerous Subject

Law Enforcement Activity on Libby Road

On March 31, 2026, deputies from the Island County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Oak Harbor Police Department, responded to a residence on Libby Road after receiving a tip that a wanted person, James Mathis, was hiding at the location.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Oak Harbor Police Department’s armored vehicle was used to conduct the search. Mathis was not located.

To protect the integrity of the scene and avoid providing an opportunity for anyone to warn Mathis of the law enforcement activity, no public announcement was made until the operation was completed.
